Pick It Farm Fresh: Leelanau County U-Picks Farms and Orchards

It’s picking time again in northern Michigan for strawberries, cherries, peaches, raspberries, blueberries and more. That means a late-summer adventure that the whole family can enjoy.

There’s nothing quite as sweet as fruit picked fresh from the branch or vine. Check it out for yourself at one of Leelanau County’s most popular  “U-pick” farms and orchards.

Alpers Berry Farm

U-Pick: raspberries

Season: Season varies, mid-July to mid-Aug. U-pick, seven days a week, 10 AM to 6 PM. Call ahead for U-pick. 231-271-6656

Location: Just two miles north of Suttons Bay, Michigan, on the right hand side of   Setterbo Road

Cedar Sol Hydro Farm

U-Pick: strawberries

Season: Mid-July. Call 231.228.8000 for times and availability.

Location: Located 15 minutes west of Traverse City in Cedar on County Road 651 between M-72 and M-22.

Clearbrook Farms

U-Pick: Peaches, Chinese chestnuts

Season: Early August to late September for peaches. Chinese chestnuts available last two weeks of October. Call ahead to arrange times and get directions, 231.947.7366

U-Pick: Saskatoon Berries

Season:  Friday through Sunday, 9 AM to 11AM, August 1st, 2nd, 3rd and August 8th, 9th, 10th. Call 231.386.5406 or 231.432.0024 to arrange u-pick times. Or email rick@cross-farms.com.

Location: Just 5 minutes north of the Village of Northport. Follow Mill Street (201) north out of town. Pass Petersen Park Road, then bear left on Kilcherman Road. Travel for 1/2 mile and turn right on East Sugar Bush Road. Farm is on the right.

 

Westover Market

U-Pick: blueberries, black and red raspberries, gooseberries

Season: Mid-April through October 31st.  Hours 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Sunday.

Location: Take M-72 W out of Traverse City, approx. 13 miles to County Road 667 (Maple City Rd.). Turn right and follow County Road 667 into Maple City. One hundred yards past flashing light, turn left on Burdickville Road (County Road 616). Farm is located 1/4 mile further, on the left.
