Are You Up For The Challenge?

The M-22 Challenge—Northern Michigan’s most popular summertime race—is set for June 13th this year. But before you can run, bike and paddle your way along this beautiful, 22-mile course through the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes, you have to beat the competition and get registered.

If past years are any indication, slots will fill in a couple hours. To reserve your place on the starting line, mark your calendar and check out the link. Registration for the 7th annual M-22 Challenge begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 1st. 

It starts with a 2.5-mile run that winds its way to (and up!) the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb. After that, you grab your bike for a 17-mile lap around Glen Lake and, finally, finish with a 2.5-mile paddle out in Glen Lake. 

The M-22 Challenge is designed to challenge all athletes, from first-time racers to professional competitors. Last year, registration filled to its 900-participant capacity within a few hours; event organizers expect the same this year.

This year, race day is slated for Saturday, June 13th with registration opening this coming Sunday (March 1st at 8 a.m.). Registration cost is $130, which covers entry for one athlete, event shirt, event bag and use of a timing chip. There is no entry fee for spectators other than National Park pass/fee requirements.
