Does “run a marathon” top your list of New Year’s resolutions? This year you can take on the challenge in America’s “most beautiful place.”
The date has been announced for the 2nd annual running of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Marathon and Half Marathon-a USATF-certified race (26.2 miles, and a Boston qualifier) and USATF-certified half marathon (13.1) run. Check out how you can register, today.
Last year Arkansas native, Wesley Hunt, won the inaugural Sleeping Bear Marathon with a time of 2:45:41. The marathon had 63 finishers, the hald marathon has 179 runners, and by all accounts, the race was such a success that Michigan-based Endurance Evolution will be hosting the event again on October 6, 2013.
Just like last year, both the Sleeping Bear Marathon and Half Marathon start and finish in Empire. The out-and-back marathon course will take runners by the “Dune Climb,” past Little Glen Lake and through the village of Glen Arbor with breathtaking views of the Manitou Islands and Sleeping Bear Dunes along the way. The half marathon will follow the same course as the marathon, turning around at the the 6.55 mile mark. At the peak of fall color season, the tree-lined course will be one of that both runners and spectators won’t soon forget.
Online registration opens January 1, 2013. The cost is $75. You can find out more on the Endurance Evolution website, or click here to go directly to their race registration page.
